On Computer Vision: A Technical SurveyThis guest post written in conjunction with Stephen Christopher Phillips, Ph.D student in computer vision at the University of Pennsylvania, advised by Kostas Daniilidis. We discuss the success of deep learning in computer vision, as well as some short comings that may not be resolved any time soon. We differentiate between the kind of "web computer vision" tasks currently in production at Google, versus classical computer vision techniques from robotics that has significant relevance to augmented reality.
